In 2019 the London Borough of Hackney (LBH) implemented Wick Workspaces, an initiative to transform underutilised council buildings in Hackney Wick into workspaces to support local businesses and community activities. Arbeit Studios was selected to deliver activation and a workspace strategy in Trowbridge Gardens.
A set of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to track performance were agreed as part of a 7 year meanwhile lease. Having reached the halfway point in the project, LBH and Arbeit Studios are keen to understand what has been delivered to date and how impactful the project has been. Independent consultants, Augarde & Partners and PRD, have reviewed activities at Trowbridge Gardens and produced an evidenced assessment of progress against the KPIs, as well as highlighting additional value created.
The headlines suggest that Trowbridge Gardens has been transformed into a place where people of all ages and demographics work, learn new skills and socialise together. With inward investment, vision and thoughtfulness, Arbeit Studios has created a variety of spaces - from sanctuary gardens, podcast studio, events and exhibition space to affordable workspace - that work in harmony together and provide benefit to a variety of communities. The utilisation of the various space typologies and collaboration with community groups in the area, along with the presence of small businesses on site, has resulted in constant use of the space by a diverse range of groups. It is not an understatement to say that it is highly valued by all parts of the community.
According to a social value report , published in September 2023, Trowbridge Gardens has transformed into a place where people of all ages and demographics work, learn new skills and socialise together.
